Xiouping aka Crystal Chang- Whitworth aka Taka Nin aka (TNT) Taiwanese & Texan has many names. An American new genres photographer, video, installation, and performance artist; as well as a writer and educator.
I-Feminist, Eco Feminist Xiouping's work traverses hybridity examining identity politics through story telling a reconstruction of her experience spanning time. Xiou states "I am breathing, that it self is political." Her performances investigate myth making/story telling through a queer bi-racial lense of indigenous shamanic Taiwanese, and Cherokee-European ancestry, taking her agency and narrative within identity, using the relationship between performer and audience, dismantling racism, sexism, and the human condition.
XP has published independent Zines & Essays “can I get a witness”, “addick”, “Herstory”, “WoManifesto” and recently she published her 1st book called “Reflections” the book will be in the Otis College Library, Fall 2021. Her work has been funded by non profit, grants and patrons of the arts.
She has BFA from San Francisco Art Institute, and will obtain an MFA from Otis College + Social Practice in Los Angeles in spring 2021. She has showed works in San Francisco, New York, LA and Mexico City. Currently she is the Host for the visiting artist lecture series at Otis College in Los Angeles and lives in Venice Beach.
